Core Operating Mode
COM is built from ten continuous dimensions. The dimensions describe recurring tendencies in cognition, direction, social context, agency, pressure response, and expression.
UTF measures recurring patterns in how a person takes in information, forms direction, organizes action, reads social context, carries responsibility, responds to pressure, and expresses thought. A second layer measures the conditions active around that pattern at the time of assessment.
UTF keeps stable operating tendencies and current conditions in separate layers. The final profile can describe both without treating a difficult month, an unusually productive stretch, or a socially intense period as a permanent personality change.
COM is built from ten continuous dimensions. The dimensions describe recurring tendencies in cognition, direction, social context, agency, pressure response, and expression.
SOM reads five current signals involving available capacity, recovery need, output, people, and change. The pattern can shift as circumstances change.
Synthesis brings COM and SOM together. Stable characteristics remain identifiable while current conditions show where the same person may look different right now.
The underlying dimensional pattern carries more information than the profile name. Two people can share the same COM name and still differ meaningfully in the dimensions underneath it.
COM estimates the operating tendencies that are expected to remain more stable across situations and time. The assessment samples the same construct from multiple angles so that one unusual response does not carry the full result.
The ten dimensions are continuous. Each dimension can express differently across its range, and the useful information comes from the joint pattern across all ten. UTF then assigns a named COM profile as a readable summary of that shape.
COM currently covers sensemaking, direction, structure, social context, refinement, relational weighting, agency, pressure response, and expressive style. The descriptions below explain the public meaning of every dimension while leaving the scoring mechanics private.
Each continuum describes a different operating tendency. Lower and higher refer only to position on the measured continuum. They do not mean worse or better. A mid-range result can reflect flexible movement across the construct.
How readily do broader patterns and dependencies stand out?
Stays close to concrete facts and visible details.
Moves between immediate detail and broader pattern as needed.
Notices recurring links, dependencies, and connections that may not be named yet.
How readily are separate signals combined into a coherent explanation?
Keeps different threads distinct unless a connection is well supported.
Combines information when it improves the explanation while preserving useful differences.
Holds several signals, viewpoints, and tensions together in a wider explanation.
How readily does uncertainty become a chosen direction?
Keeps possibilities open and prefers choices that remain easy to revise.
Gathers enough information to choose while keeping room for adjustment.
Narrows options and commits once the main issue and responsible direction are clear.
How much structure is built around action?
Adapts sequence as conditions change and lets action reveal the next step.
Adds structure where it reduces confusion and loosens it where flexibility helps.
Organizes sequence, responsibilities, standards, and backup paths before heavy investment.
How much does social context enter the read of a situation?
Centers explicit words, visible behavior, and the task itself.
Reads the social setting when it is relevant without continuously scanning it.
Registers tone, timing, influence, tension, openness, and subtle shifts in the room.
How strongly does attention stay on improvement after the basic requirement is met?
Favors practical completion once the real requirement has been satisfied.
Refines the parts that matter and can stop when further work adds little value.
Continues improving precision, finish, and quality until the result meets a demanding standard.
How much weight do relational consequences carry when choosing?
Gives more weight to outcome, principle, function, or task when those conflict with harmony.
Balances human impact with other demands and changes the balance by situation.
Places trust, belonging, morale, and human impact near the center of judgment.
Where does processing tend to become visible?
Keeps more thought and reaction private while processing.
Moves between private processing and outward exchange according to context.
Uses conversation, visible expression, and active exchange while working with ideas.
How independently does a person carry final judgment?
Prefers trusted structure, authority, alignment, or shared direction before carrying a choice alone.
Uses personal judgment while remaining open to shared ownership, correction, and collaboration.
Treats the final direction as a personal responsibility and uses outside input to sharpen the choice.
How does pressure tend to persist after it enters the system?
Pressure registers strongly and can remain active after the outside event has passed.
Response varies by situation. Some pressure clears quickly and some continues working internally.
Balance usually returns without requiring the outside situation to become calm first.
UTF also records a separate calibration signal called Integration Timing. It describes when an integrated understanding tends to become available after the relevant information is present.
At one end, the larger picture tends to become clearer after additional consolidation. At the other end, the larger picture can become available while the information is still being taken in.
It is independent of private or outward expression, pattern awareness, and integrative processing. COM type assignment does not use this calibration signal.
SOM measures current operating conditions. The assessment tracks five signals that can change with workload, recovery, relationships, opportunities, and changing circumstances.
Usable energy, capacity, and bandwidth available in the current period.
The degree of restoration, protection, simplicity, or conservation the current system is asking for.
The current pull toward building, producing, finishing, carrying responsibility, or visible progress.
The current pull toward connection, support, relational input, trust, or shared context.
The current pull toward adjustment, improvement, experimentation, adaptation, or new movement.
The seasonal mode summarizes the relationship among these signals. Capacity provides context while the strongest current pull helps describe where attention and effort are being directed. The mode is expected to be more changeable than COM.
The engine reads the joint shape across the COM dimensions and assigns one of 21 named profiles. The name gives the pattern a practical vocabulary. The dimension profile remains the more detailed representation underneath it.
SOM follows the same general design principle at the current-state layer. Five signals produce a readable seasonal pattern summarized by one of nine modes.
The Synthesis page then uses the measured profile to describe higher-order patterns, interactions, practical expressions, possible perception gaps, and the current season. Those descriptions are generated from the interpreted profile rather than from the profile name alone.
UTF includes an optional Big Five comparison layer on the Synthesis page. It provides broad trait bars so a user can compare UTF with familiar personality language.
The comparison uses overlap from COM plus an optional 20-item calibration that samples trait content UTF does not cover directly enough.
The public result shows broad domain bars. It does not provide facet scores or percentiles.
A recent Big Five recalibration candidate stayed out of production after the available paired data were too limited and some trait estimates became worse.
The prior production version remained in place while more paired data are collected.
It does not change COM, SOM, profile assignment, or the main UTF accuracy rating. Its current output is labeled as an estimate.
UTF is an independently developed self-report framework. The scoring system is deterministic and versioned. Development work focuses on whether the constructs remain distinct, whether descriptions match the measured side of a dimension, whether boundary cases behave sensibly, and whether the final profile fits real users.
A change should survive structural tests, known-case regression checks, and the evidence available for the construct before it replaces production behavior. When the evidence is too weak, the current production version stays in place.
UTF is still early. It has extensive internal testing, versioned regression work, user ratings, and a growing set of calibration data. Independent peer-reviewed validation has not been completed.
The assessment relies on self-report, so results can be affected by interpretation, self-knowledge, response style, and the context in which someone answers. COM is designed around more stable tendencies, while longitudinal data are still needed to estimate how stable each construct remains over longer periods. SOM is designed to be more sensitive to current conditions and can reasonably change on retest.
UTF should not be used for diagnosis, clinical decisions, hiring, eligibility, or other high-stakes judgments. Its current use is self-understanding, reflection, coaching-style conversation, and continued measurement research.
The public model includes the construct names, the behavioral meaning of each continuum, the COM and SOM layer structure, the role of Integration Timing, the Big Five comparison boundary, and the current validation status.
The item-to-dimension map, scoring weights, thresholds, gates, tie logic, type-distance rules, and exact profile assignment mechanics remain proprietary. That protects test integrity and the intellectual property behind the instrument.
Keeping scoring mechanics private protects the assessment from easy reverse engineering. Reliability, convergence, stability, and practical usefulness still have to be demonstrated through data.
The library gives a short standalone preview of each named profile. These previews describe the broad profile family. A real UTF result also carries the dimensional shape underneath the name.
COM is the starting assessment. SOM follows it so the final Synthesis can keep the stable pattern and the current season in view together.
